Some of older hardware cannot activated Desktop Effect on BlankOn/Ubuntu. Some times with new hardware, we do not need desktop effect. But we need Avant-Window-Navigator as a docker for our desktop. So how to use AWN without activating desktop effect ?
- Install avant-window-navigator and awn-manager from synaptic
- Install xcompmgr from synaptic
- Disable your desktop effect
- Press alt+F2 and type : xcompmgr -c -f -n
- Try to running your avant-window-navigator
If that step successfull, you can go to the next step.
- Put your xcompmgr -c -f -n command to your desktop session (System – Preference – Sessions)
- Also put your avant-window-navigator to your desktop session

Kalau diakali dengan mengaktifkan compositing di Gnome, bisa tidak ya??
Saya gak ngerti cara aktipin compositingnya yang built-in gnome (metacity). Tapi itu xcompmgr juga composite kok. 🙂
Butuhnya AWN cuman composite, bukan efek yang gede. Saya malah tertarik dengan AWN milik dreamlinux atau docker gOS

T.O.P B.G.T Mas, emang top banget, sukses!! saya coba aktifin composite di gconf-editor ga sukses.
kalo dari gconf-editor, masih terikat sama metacity, terikat juga ntar sama compiznya. CMIIW
Mas Ahmad, tadi saya matiin kompie trus nyalakan lagi, anehnya koq resolusi jadi 800×600 dan ketika saya lihat di System – Preferences – Display resolusinya mentok 800×600, ga bisa lebih dari itu. FYI saya make VGA Geforce2 MX/MX 400 tanpa diaktifin proprietary drivernya (pernah saya aktifin malah dapet black screen, karena ga nemu tutorial yang memuaskan di Google jadi saya reinstall). Kemudian saya matikan xcompmgr di Startup Apps, logout baru saya kembali dapet resolusi 1024×786. Ada ide kenapa ya?Thx
Kejadiannya sama seperti saya, tapi untung sudah nemuin solusinya.
ternyata tinggal System >administration >nvidia x server settting > x server Display Configuration> Display Resolution> 1024×768 > Save to X Configuratin File
