Attending GNOME Hackfest 2018

This Hackfest are focused on GNOME Recipes and venues in AMIKOM university in Yogyakarta. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Amikom_Yogyakarta

In last year,  I know there will be GNOME Hackfest in Yogyakarta and possibly in March. And I thought it wil be at end of March until Nuritzi tell in Endless Ambassador Telegram Group that it will be start from February 28th until March 2nd. I know this on February 25th. So I ask Kukuh Syafaat to go together and help since he also GNOME Foundation Members.

Actually at February 27th, there’s an outreach event at the local university. But I can’t manage to go because I arrived at Yogyakarta at 17:00 and it already finished. But I have dinner with few GNOME Developer (but no Mattias and Emel) for that day.

Radix Royal Edisi Saya

Mi Notebook Air 12.5″ with openSUSE Tumbleweed

Well … I bought new machine for fun. Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 12.5″ (http://xiaomi-mi.com/notebooks/xiaomi-mi-notebook-air-125-silver/). It was good machine. Good price, comparing to Apple Macbook 12. 🙂

I killed Microsoft Windows Chinese version that already on it. Replace it with BlankOn Linux for a while. My plan exactly put openSUSE Tumbleweed.

First installation was not good enough. My pointer not working. So I use keyboard for it. Another issue is when USB installer plugged before computer on, installation will not going well (my experience, the system install on USB it self).

After installation finish, everything going well and good.

BlankOn Tambora di Mi Notebook Air 12.5″

Saya iseng mencoba (baca: membeli) Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 12.5″ (http://xiaomi-mi.com/notebooks/xiaomi-mi-notebook-air-125-silver/).

Just Work.

I have session at secon day. But at first day, accidently I helping local committee to answer few questions  from audience.
Actually I’m little bit famous in FOSS Community in this country. Hahaha. It’s just because I’m Release Manager of BlankOn Linux since few years ago and I also GNOME Foundation Member. Then in openSUSE, I become Coordinator of Indonesia Translation Team.

Building U-Boot for Banana Pi M2+

Since few days ago I was struggling with u-boot on banana pi m2+. That arm device has limited information. Even on their forum (forum.banana-pi.org). They has lot of information but not clearly understandable by beginner. Also many people complain it.

I was googling every document that contain any information about it. Then trying one by one until finally found this step.

First, you need to clone mainline u-boot’s repository.

git clone git://git.denx.de/u-boot.git --depth 1

You need to find useable config to build u-boot.  You need to creat file configs/Sinovoip_BPI_M2_plus_defconfig with content from http://pastebin.com/A1n1ecmt. And this one will fail. Then I ask in Armbian Forum and got answer (https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib/blob/master/patch/u-boot/u-boot-default/add-missing-h3-boards.patch#L46-L62). You need to use this line below on your config file:

CONFIG_DEFAULT_DEVICE_TREE="sun8i-h3-orangepi-pc"

From this, you can build the u-boot and write on sdcard with this command as example:

dd if=u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin of=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=1024 seek=8

You can test it and see what’s happen from USB Serial connected to your banana pi.
